Snow Nostalgia
‘Tis the happiest time of year!
No school, no work, no nothing!
It is that time of no cares in the world, no stress.
It really is a time of happiness
Having family time,
Trash-talking over Monopoly and Catan,
Talking all about how tall all the kids have grown.
The emerald green tree, hiding all of the secret surprises of the year.
Mariah Carey’s “Christmas” faintly playing in the distance.
Hearing the grand, rich notes of the living room piano playing cheesy pieces like Yiruma’s “River Flows In You” and Canon in D.
Leisurely sinking into the couch with a fluffy furry companion lying at my side.
Sipping on piping hot hot chocolate, buried inside a book with some headphones in.
Looking at the snow gracefully plummet to the ground and rushing outside,
Catching snowflakes with my tongue,
Playfully whisking away snowballs at others,
Building formidable snow forts.
Getting out of bed late at night for a few shortbread cookies with a tall glass of milk and some Graeter’s ice cream.
Watching movies late into the night and almost falling asleep on the carpet.
Reluctantly going to the holiday mass,
And looking back on the past year,
Reflecting on what I could’ve done better,
Sleeping on the couch one last time,
Eating a quick breakfast, packing my suitcase, getting ready to leave,
And wishing for the year to go by fast so I could get to this time of year again.
