Top 5 Artists across different music genres

Many people are stuck with the same artists that they listen to all day and are slowly becoming uninterested in them. While on the other hand, some think that it is very important to try and listen to different artists and see what new music artist or sound you might like. This list is all about the top five artists in different music genres. Full disclosure, this article covers artists from across the world and it is very biased.

I personally think that this topic is very important because people seem to base the music they listen to off of their race. For example, if a black person saw another black person listening to music that isn’t rap or soul music, they would criticize them for it: “You are a black person, so you should listen to black music” or “Why are you listening to that?” These are backhanded and sometimes xenophobic comments. Although this might not happen to a lot of people, it happens very frequently. Music is not based on your race. It’s based on what you like, and what you prefer.

Hopefully, many of you will learn more about these artists and consider whether or not you might have an interest in them.

1. The Weeknd (R&B, Pop)

The Weeknd is one of the world’s top artists in the genre of R&B, with some of the world’s most listened to songs and watched music videos. He started his musical career by uploading songs anonymously to YouTube until a producer discovered it and took him to the commercial circuit. That’s how he became so big in the R&B industry;  he had even collaborated with Ariana Grande.

Note: His top songs are – “Blinding Lights,” “Starboy,” “Lost in the Fire,” “Die For You” and many more.

2. Drake (HipHop)

Drake first got fame from being a part of a teen drama, “Degrassi: The Next Generation,” playing the role of Jimmy Brooks. Once he left the show, he signed a deal with Lil Wayne’s label, Young Money Entertainment in June of 2009. Now he is one of the world’s top rappers with his top songs being: “Nice For What,” “One Dance,” “God’s Plan” and many more.

3. BTS (K-pop)

BTS ( 방탄소년단 ), also known as Bangtan Boys, is a band of seven South Korean men that debuted in 2013. They all came together as teenagers under a company, Big Hit Entertainment and during that time it was a very poor and small company. They came to America to know more about music and rap, and participated in a reality show, “American Hustle Life.” They recorded and produced music in a basement, and now they are the world’s number one boy band.

Note: They are one of my personal favorites

Members:

Kim Namjoon (RM) – Leader

Kim Seokjin (Jin) – 1st Oldest

Min Yoongi (Suga) – 2nd Oldest

Jung Hoseok (J-Hope) – 3rd Oldest

Park Jimin (Jimin) – 3rd Youngest

Kim Taehyung (V) – 2nd Youngest

Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook/JK) – Youngest

4.  Ariana Grande (Pop)

Ariana Grande was just eight years old when she got her first big gig and sang the national anthem at a Florida Panthers hockey game. In 2008, she won a position in a Broadway play, “13,” and soon after she began appearing in parts on popular shows. Her big role landed in 2010 when she received the role of Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon TV series “Victorious.” While she was pursuing her acting career, in 2011 she released the single, “Put Your Hearts Up” and released her debut album “Yours Truly.” The album made it to number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was internationally praised. Ariana began to focus more on her music career than acting and in 2014 she released her second album, “My Everything.” Now she has been officially established as a pop star. After collaborating with many famous artists such as The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Childish Gambino, and many more, she earned her first Grammy Award nomination. As time passes on, Ariana Grande continues to release many albums that receive widespread acclaim and receive many rewards for her amazing talent.

Note: She has collaborated with over 50+ famous artists around the world.

5th Romeo Santos (Latin Pop)

When Romeo was only 13 years old, he joined his church choir, and people noticed his outstanding vocals. As a result, Romeo later formed a group called Los Teenagers. Later on, that group signed a deal with a record label, Premium Labels and the band changed its name to Grupo Aventura. That same year, the group released its debut album, “Generation Next.” In 2002, their album, We Broke the Rules, including their hit song “Obsesion” which was written by Romeo Santos. And as a result, it transformed Aventura into the most popular Latin boy band at that time. After spending many successful years with Aventura, Romeo Santos decided to move on to a solo career in 2011. All the years he spent in Aventura promoted his popularity which allowed him to start his own career. His solo debut album, “Formula Vol. 1,” blew up and became one of the most popular Latin music albums of 2011 and 2012. He is now one of the most known Latin musicians.

Now it is your choice whether to try and listen to new music! Read the biographies of the artists you are interested in, and see learn about their upbringing and how they have made a claim to fame. All on: Spotify, Soundcloud, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and many more!
