How to start an online lip gloss business
Many teens want to have jobs, but sometimes they might not like it or it interferes with life and school. Starting an online business can help with boredom and generate some side money. Specifically, this article will teach you how to make an online lip gloss business. Many people use lip gloss, with makeup to moisturize their lips. Lip gloss is sticky and can be a little messy to make, but it is also fun, easy, and quick. An online business is something anyone can do and it is not too complicated.
Over the quarantine and online school, I was on a Zoom call and a 12-year-old girl talked about having her own lip gloss business. I thought that it could help me make money and I wanted to sell lip gloss too, so I started my own business. Even though we are still in a pandemic, the mask restrictions in certain places are starting to lift and now people have more reason to wear lip gloss. There are a few basic steps to starting a business like this which start with knowing the materials you’ll need and the steps needed to be successful in the beginning.
1. Naming Your business
One important thing to have is the name of your business. It is called a domain name and it is the web address of your company’s site. The next step is to choose a domain register which is a company like Godaddy that allows you to purchase a domain name. So when you start your online business you can create a name for your business in a webspace they will provide. You then have to pay about $2-$20 annually to keep your business name and make sure no one else can use it. The name is completely up to you, and you can choose the website you want to sell on. I am personally using Godaddy.
2. Lip Gloss materials
When it comes to knowing what to get for a lip gloss business there are various supplies. Most people use Amazon or Shein to get their materials. I use Amazon because it has more supplies and varieties. When making Lip gloss different oils are required, most people use Vitamin E oil and coconut oil.
To make lip gloss you need a TKB lip gloss base. This is a vegan, gluten-free lip gloss base, it is also the most used and has high ratings. Next, non-toxic mica powder is used for coloring. It is made of natural non-metallic minerals and is ok to use on your skin. It is up to you if you want to use powder in your lip gloss. Mica powder is mostly used because it appears shimmery and gives a glossy effect, while liquid pigments appear matte. It is ok if you accidentally swallow mica powder or liquid color, you just have to look for safe products. Vitamin E oil and coconut oil are two necessary oils needed for lip gloss. Vitamin E oil relieves chapped lips making lips softer. Coconut oil has good moisturizing effects, and just like Vitamin E oil, coconut oil helps to heal dry lips. Flavors and scents are also used in lip gloss. They are just used for scent and if you accidentally lick it, it’ll have a taste. These are all the ingredients needed to make lip gloss.
3. Lip Gloss Measurements
There are certain measurements when it comes to making lip gloss, and many people measure in different ways. Since we are talking about the base being a TKB lip gloss base, Here are the measurements.

These tubes have 5 ml tube wands and 10 ml tubes. If you use 5.5 oz of TKB Gloss base you can use 30-35 5 ml tubes. If you can’t measure 5 .5 oz you can find a scale on Amazon. If you use 5.5 oz you can fill 11-12, 15 ml tubes. You can put the number of ounces of lip gloss in a bowl after you measure it and you can add as much coconut and Vitamin E oil as you want until you like the consistency. There is no specific measurement when it comes to adding oil. You don’t need to add a lot, but I suggest adding one and a half spoonfuls. You can also add two or three pinches of mica powder and three or four drops of liquid color if you’re not using mica powder. Add two or three drops of the scent, then you mix.
4. Adding Lip Gloss into tubes
Once you finish mixing the lip gloss you need a syringe and a pipette. You use the syringe to grab the lip gloss and transfer it into the lip gloss tubes. Most lip gloss tubes are clear so people can see the lip gloss colors and be appealed by them. Once you fill the lip gloss tubes you should wash the outside of the tubes just to keep them clean.
5. Packaging materials
It is easy to use bubble mailers to ship lip gloss packages because there are many different sizes, colors, and quantities you can look for. You need sticker labels to put on your lip gloss. The lip gloss tubes mentioned above have sticker labels to write your business name. You can either find or create a label using a website like canva and print them out. You want to put the label on the lip gloss so people don’t steal your pictures. When selling lip gloss it is best to have an Instagram account for your business to advertise. When you take pictures of your lip gloss products, your label will be on there so no one can steal that picture.
When you’re packaging you can use holographic bags to put the lip gloss in. You can also put a business card that has your business name, email address, social media, and any other business information you want to add. Some people add candy to their bags as a sweet touch. You should also add a “thank you” card. Once you put those in the holographic bag you can put them in the bubble mailers. Then when people order from your website their shipping information will come up and you can print it out on shipping labels and stick it on the bubble mailer.
6. Shipping
When it comes to shipping costs you have to weigh the whole package and after you’re done packing it you can look up a service you plan on using to ship the package. Places like USPS let you fill out the package information and they’ll calculate the shipping cost for you. Once the package is shipped you’re done!
These are the steps to making lip gloss, the materials you need, and extra information to help you out. Starting an online business is easier than you think. Lip gloss is a great way to start small and once you got the hang of it you can add more products to your business.
