The great hotdog debate of 2020
December 3, 2020
This fall has been pretty non-eventful thanks to COVID. HOWEVER, something BIG happened. Now, you see, I have a friend in TiP who goes to the same school as me. One day I was sitting with him at lunch and we were chattin’ about random, probably stupid stuff. And so, I noticed there was a dude eating a hotdog several tables away from us. At some point in our conversation I brought that up, and eventually we got to the topic of whether or not hotdogs are sandwiches. I said they weren’t and he said otherwise. So, the rest of the lunch period was spent jokingly debating if a hotdog was a sandwich.
Flash to a few hours later, I’m home and done with homework, and I go on Discord to hang out with some friends. Suddenly I get this notification on a different server saying, “Should Hotdog be considered a sandwich,” which I immediately knew was my friend. A day later, the chat is filled with messages debating if a hotdog is a sandwich or not. I actually checked the chat and probably a good 30% of the messages there are about the hotdog debate, which is awesome.
This led on to other food debates, like if cereal was a soup or not. And yeah, this was the highlight of my year. Man, COVID does some weird stuff to people.

YOOO. You know, days like today — they aren’t bad, really. I’m living it up. After school I didn’t have too much homework, so I’m feeling stoked. The teachers seem to not want to kill people today.
I can relax and lounge around a little and play some games of chess. No, I’m not a nerd. Well, I mean, kinda — doesn’t matter. Chess is a lot more fun than a lotta people think it is. At least in my experience, most people think chess is this game only like fifty people in the world play sometimes, and that it’s also boring. But they’re wrong. I mean, I play it… I can’t come up with any other people I know who also do, but just disregard that. It’s fun, okay? I wish more people were interested in it, but I mean, it’s fine. I’m not their boss.
Speaking of chess, I also watched “The Queen’s Gambit” today, which actually did get a lot of people into chess. It really isn’t a bad show. It’s about this girl named Elizabeth Harmon who shows a great talent for chess at a young age. But, she is also a drug addict and an alcoholic. Which, if you think about it, is a bit problematic.

I am super excited for Christmas! Most years, including this year, I go to Ohio and visit my cousins’ family. Which is very exciting, if I didn’t already mention it.
The thing I love about Ohio is that my family there is pretty chill. They are very nice people who you can hold an interesting conversation with. However, more importantly, they have good food. They make cookies every year. You know shortbread cookies? The ones that my uncle makes every year are really sick. And there are always a lot of them. They keep ‘em on a hella big platter in the living room, and after dinner I always make sure to grab some along with a glass o’ milk, of course. Some people don’t have milk with their cookies, which, in my opinion, is a little sacrilegious.
Also, my cousins — they’re serious about their ice cream. They go to Grater’s, an ice cream chain, all the time. So, if I want ice cream, I can go with my cousins, which is always cool.
One last thing, it’s always fun to hang out with my cousins, like I said before. It’s especially cool because whenever I go to Ohio, I play board and card games with my cousins. It’s always really fun, although like with chess, people usually think board games are boring — but it is always awesome to play. Last year we played stuff like Cards Against Humanity, which was great!
