Skims Review
When I first tried Skims, I honestly expected it to be overhyped. Since it was created by Kim Kardashian, I assumed it was just another celebrity brand selling overpriced stuff that wasn’t made well. But after wearing a few pieces myself, my opinion changed. Some things really do live up to the hype, while other brands don’t fully justify their prices.
This review breaks down what Skims does well, where it falls short, and whether it’s actually worth spending your money on. I’m using my own experience plus specific details about pricing, materials, and quality to give the most realistic answer.
My experience:
The first thing I noticed when I put on skins was how soft the fabric felt. I tried one of their basic fits: a Fits Everybody top, and a pair of shorts. The material felt stretchy but still held everything in place without being uncomfortable. I wore it for a full school day, and didn’t feel like I needed to adjust it constantly, which is rare for tight clothing.
However, I also noticed that even though it was comfortable, I was more aware of the price because it’s not something you can easily replace if it gets ruined.
Quality 4.5/5
Skims use materials like nylon and spandex blends, which makes the clothes stretchy and form fitting. From my experience, the fabric feels high quality, soft, smooth, and doesn’t feel cheap. After washing it, it still kept its shape, which is important because some stretchy clothes get loose over time. The stitching also looked clean and strong, which made it feel like it would last.
Affordability 3/5
This is where Skims might not work for everyone. Most basic items range from 30$-80$ depending on what you get. For example, a simple top can be around 40$+ which is a lot compared to other brands that sell similar basics for cheaper. As a teenager, I wouldn’t buy a lot of pieces at once. It’s more of a “buy one good item” brand.
Comfort 5/5
This is definitely skims strongest category. The fabric is breathable and first very well without feeling too tight or restrictive. I could sit, walk around, and move normally without feeling uncomfortable. It also didn’t dig into my skin, which is something I have experienced with other shapewear brands.
Overall, Skims are popular for a reason. They combine comfort, quality, and simple style in a way that actually makes a difference when you wear it. From my experience it feels more supportive and better fitting than a lot of cheaper basics, which is why so many people keep buying from the brand.
At the same time, I know some people think Skims are inappropriate because they have a built-in shapewear element, so they are supposed to be tighter and more revealing than traditional clothing. But, personally, I don’t see it that way. I think clothing like this is about choice. If something makes you feel comfortable in your own body, that’s really what matters. Everyone has different styles and comfort levels, and no one should be judged for wearing something that makes them feel good.
In the end, Skims aren’t perfect, especially because of the price, but it does what it’s meant to do. If you’re looking for basics that are comfortable, flattering and boost your confidence, then it’s definitely worth trying.
