Our Parasitic Relationship with Our Planet
We live on this planet, Earth, yet we destroy it. Our parasitic relationship with this planet isn’t just hurting it, either; it’s hurting us. We need to wake up! Before we came to exist, plants made the Earth livable. Plants are on this earth for a reason. They provide us with the air we breathe, the food and vitamins we need, and shelter from the sun and weather. When we decide to treat them negatively and go out of our way to directly harm our environment, we effectively poison ourselves, pollute the air, and cause climate change.
With the climate change we’re causing, the summers are getting hotter, droughts are destroying our lands, and the heat is slowly becoming too much for our human bodies. The winters are getting colder, the snow is piling up, and eventually we might freeze over. We’ve had to rebuild entire cities and islands due to the natural disasters occurring. There’s so much more to say about climate change, and if you research what climate change is doing to our planet, it’ll open your eyes to the damage we’re doing to our home.
How can we work together to save our environment? Time is ticking, and we see the problem and yet ignore it. Ignorance is bliss, but its consequences will kill us. Some organizations are working towards a better future for us, actively doing things to better ourselves. These organizations do their best to educate and advocate for people to fight for all of our futures. One organization I’ve seen do this is Better Planet Education, which actively informs and participates with the people to help better our environment. If you ever get the chance, check out their website to educate not only yourself but others. Also, the EPA has such an amazing list of negatives of climate change, and even points out several causes and effects to show us how much of an impact we’re having.
You should take it upon yourself to advocate for our planet, to not only better our lives, but also the generations to come. If you’ve read this and still believe that our planet is “fine” as it is, that’s ignorant, and a problem that we will have to continue to face in the future. Without this planet, there is no us. Wake up, before you can’t!
