Making School More Fun Is Pretty Simple
Have you ever considered anything you wanted in school to change like longer lunch breaks and better teachers? Well, me too. School is very outdated, using strategies that have been used for years and years. As of right now, I am currently a seventh grader and here are three things that I would want to change in school to make school better in some way.
1. Lunch
We all love lunch, a time when you can socialize and eat food at the same time. What I hate about it is that I never get to finish my lunches in time. I have to get lunch by grabbing the tray and putting the student ID in the keyboard to “purchase” it. After that, I have to find a table with people I can talk to and then eat my lunch and talk to them which takes a lot of time. My solution is to increase the amount of time for lunch. The benefit this gives is giving the students a longer break and more time to socialize eat food, and maybe use it as a study hall to get their work done. I think this a great idea. The amount of extended time should be thirty minutes so the period can last for an hour. From this, teachers and students can have a longer break.
2. Make Learning Engaging
Learning can either be fun or the most boring thing of your life. Some teachers just hand you a packet for you to finish, which is boring and not engaging, while others do the opposite. What I would change is to make sure all learning is engaging. An example of an engaging lesson is when the student is having fun in learning and starts to engage and interact. An engaging lesson that I had was either with stations or teachers fully explaining the lesson and everyone is interested and then playing a little learning game at the end of the period. There should be a school policy where the learning has to be interactive and engaging for the students so everyone can have fun and maybe change their view of school.
3. Enhance Study Halls
Study halls are one of two things: a place to have free time or a place to do your homework. What I don’t like about it is that there aren’t enough study halls. From my experience study hall is a place where you get to do your homework instead of doing more work in class or being lazy and doing homework at home. I also think it’s a place where you get to feel free for once without a teacher constantly bothering you, which helps you work independently and gives you skills that you can use. I only have three study halls every week. My solution is to have at least two study halls per day so everyone has time to do homework without the worry of an event happening that causes them to not have time to do homework at home or just saying to themselves they will do it later when there isn’t actually a “later.”
Everyone could talk about the things they want school to improve because of how outdated the techniques or how bad it is in general but nothing will happen unless we make it happen or do something about it. These changes should be implemented in school so the students would be less stressed and more relaxed and be fully happy learning instead of being bored and having a bad opinion of school.
