Lego Batman is a great movie

Not going to lie I wasn’t expecting the Lego Batman Movie to be anything crazy when I first went to go see it. I didn’t have any high expectations for the movie mainly because the first Lego movie wasn’t that great to me. Lego Batman took it to the next level though. The characters were funny, the visuals were amazing and the plot was great. The movie far exceeded my expectations.

The movie starts off with our antagonist Joker committing villainous acts as usual. Before he can actually succeed with his plans, he gets stopped by our protagonist Batman. But this isn’t the regular Batman we all know; Lego Batman seems to have a lot of “self-love.” The movie expands on this when it kicks off with a cool montage of Batman beating bad guys and singing a song praising himself to an insane degree which is out of character for a person like Batman, so naturally I found this hilarious. 

After all that comes to an end Batman confronts Joker, but not in the normal way like a final showdown. Batman basically tells Joker that he’s not his favorite bad guy and how he doesn’t need him. This leaves Joker heartbroken as if he had just suffered a breakup. The whole movie is just pure unseriousness which isn’t commonly found in Batman movies. Like even the civilians don’t take The Joker seriously because they already know Batman is going to stop him. But this isn’t a bad thing; it only makes the character interactions even more funny. After Joker and Batman stand down Joker is hauled off to prison which means no crime in Gotham. For right now at least. 

Batman is then introduced to Barbara Gordon who he immediately falls in love with. In this adaptation Batman isn’t as good with women; he just makes every conversation awkward. His whole personality in this movie is being a narcissist man child but in a good way if that makes sense. With the 

Joker in jail, Batman became super lonely and depressed. His butler Alfred considers adopting a child. After throwing a huge temper tantrum he reluctantly decides to adopt a kid. Long story short the kid becomes his sidekick Robin who we all know. They then form a duo and do missions together. Usually Batman would be all mature and try to mentor Robin but in this movie they both act like big children. I think the characterization they gave Batman is one of the best because he actually acts like a human and not some cold humble hero. 

For a lego movie that came out in 2017, the animation still can hold up quite well in today’s time. Every character in this movie has a line that’s bound to make you laugh at least once. They managed to mix humor and Batman together which is something that can rarely be pulled off correctly. Overall I think the movie took a really creative approach on how they wanted to portray the Batman universe and they did a good job doing it. This movie is easily one of my favorites of all time and is definitely a 10/10.
