Here our my top choices landscape paintings that have appealed to me over the years!

#1 The Starry Night – Vincent van Gogh

The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh is an amazing landscape painting. One of the reasons why this painting is in my top five landscape paintings is because of the unique look of the art style. In the art style, there are different strokes on how he created the tree and the sky. The sky is detailed and fascinating for me because of the way it’s warped and presented differently compared to other landscape paintings that I’ll show later on. On top of that it made the list because I enjoy the view of the sky on the moon so of course this art piece captured my attention. Although this art piece is extremely popular I personally still find it valuable to be in my top five for others to appreciate unique art pieces.

#2 View of Toledo – El Greco

Image courtesy of the Met Museum

View of Toledo by El Greco is a landscape painting that captures important highlights in the painting. This painting is a bit different from the previous one; it has many layers that it creates to make a far view. This painting has many details which adds to the effect of making the buildings look farther. The highlights in the bushes and trees, make it look like the wind is being blown on it which connects to the sky. It’s dark and it looks like an intense storm which adds to the effect of the blowing trees. What makes this painting cool is that wind doesn’t have color so the artist did an amazing job making it clear that there’s a storm while adding the details of the trees blowing using highlights.

#3 The Oxbow – Thomas Cole

The Oxbow by Thomas Cole is a painting that focuses on lighting. This landscape painting made it on my list because of the two-sided lighting differences. From what it looks like on the left side it is shown that a storm has passed and on the right side shows the aftermath of the storm. As you can see it shows that the painting focuses and closes up the tree from what looks like it’s destroyed. Nature being shown in a painting is something really pretty. It’s a moment captured and part of my reasons why I believe that landscape painting is underrated and should have more attention to it. That’s also why I present my reasons because I want others to see the beauty of nature and the moments being captured within the painting.

#4 Twilight in the Wilderness – Frederick Church

Twilight and the Wilderness by Frederick Church is a breathtaking painting. This painting shows a beautiful sunset creating the clouds to be red and vibrant like scorching flames. The blended colors of yellow, orange, and red are outstanding. This painting was one of the most vibrant with an amazing color pallet out of all. One important thing that fits my criteria to fit my top five is a landscape with a fitting sky. Any landscape with a sky that makes an outstanding appearance makes all of it fitting to see. I want to share my interests in specific things like landscape paintings. All you see nowadays in modern art are random objects in museums that don’t show the complex skills of creating a masterpiece that takes time and effort. Something you look at and can tell it takes talent is what makes it even more enjoyable to see.

#5 Heart Of The Andes – Frederic Edwin Church

Heart Of The Andes by Frederic Edwin Church is a greenery art piece. Another thing that makes it to my top five is the greenery in the landscape. I love seeing visibly green trees and grass with the touch of a small waterfall. This one is not too simple but not too complex either it has a mountain in the back and the detail highlights the tree branches and of course the water. These small little details are a big part of what I like to fit in my top five. A landscape with no buildings or people and just bare nature is just as beautiful. This painting also shows my intentions of showing others that nature is worth seeing and deserves more attention. nature allows you to express deep thoughts and emotions and while seeing this does it.
