Tips to improve your baking
Have you ever been bored and hungry at the same time? Well, it probably has to be one of the worst moments in our lives. However, trying out baking will most definitely satisfy both feelings. You will have something to do to take up your time and in the end, you might get a tasty treat for yourself or someone else. If you’re interested in our trying out baking for the first time, I have a list of things for you to try so you can become better and more engaged.
1. Checking out baking social media accounts
Checking out other bakers on social media is the best place to start. You can get inspiration from them and look at the different types of baking content they put on their page. Taking inspiration from these posts is great because it gives you plenty of ideas that you might be interested in trying out or, maybe you just want to stare at delicious food. In some of these bakers’ posts, they leave their recipe down in the caption, which makes it a lot easier to figure out how to make the baked goods. Some of them might even own their cookbooks that are usually linked in their bio. Here are some accounts that I would suggest searching up.
Some accounts to check out are:
2. Watch baking videos
Looking at photos and drooling over the amazing food showing up on your feed is great but, maybe you want more than that, like a video. Watching baking videos might be entertaining to you, and you can easily follow the tutorial step by step. It makes things a whole lot easier, and you get to learn about what you should and shouldn’t do. I personally enjoy watching other people bake and then trying it myself. Two channels I personally recommend are Cooking tree 쿠킹트리 and Daram Table다람테이블.
Both are Korean channels that make aesthetic-focused baking videos. It is very satisfying to watch them create their food, and although it may be a different language they provide captions for other languages. However, if you prefer videos where someone gives commentary, checking out Baker Bettie is a good choice. She explains the instructions in detail, and some of her videos are short, so you don’t have to stress about watching a long video.
3. Reading cookbooks
Maybe you’re more of a reader and you don’t need a visual demonstration of how to bake. Cookbooks are useful when it comes to baking because it includes plenty of different kinds of recipes you want and it’s a lot easier than scrolling through pictures or videos to see what has been made by other bakers. Pastry Love and Modern Baking are both great cookbooks that include delicious treats. There are hundreds of recipes in each book, so that gives you a lot of different things to try whenever you have time or feel like getting in the kitchen to bake again.
4. Sign up for baking classes
If you are deciding to pursue baking and want help from an expert to teach and guide you through everything, signing up for a cooking class is a great idea! Everything will be a lot smoother when you have someone beside you who can show you the ropes of baking. With this help, you can find yourself becoming a better baker, and sooner or later you’ll be baking whatever you want with minimal mistakes. Great cooking classes here in Massachusetts would be Cozymeal cooking classes located in Cambridge and mostly has great reviews from people. Another class is Create a cook, which also has similar reviews and is located in Newton. These classes are also accessible to teens who are interested in joining.
5. Trying to learn patience
Getting everything prepared to start baking and anticipating the final results can be very exciting but, sometimes baked goods need a little more time before you can be able to move on to the next step. This could be putting something in the oven or the freezer and waiting a while. This step is probably one of the hardest things about baking because you just want to eat already, but it also gives you time to relax and take a break from all the hard work you’ve started. During this waiting time, you should have a timer set up so you don’t forget and burn your house down. While you wait you can watch a movie, read a book, meditate, and play games. This way you won’t be bored out of your mind and you can still keep yourself busy with these activities. Watching videos on how to learn patience can be helpful if you have a hard time with being patient, and you will receive lots of information you didn’t know before.
6. Last but not least, practice!
You won’t always get things perfect or right on the first try. Always make mistakes and learn from them and try avoiding them. The more mistakes, the better you get at something and that is why practicing something is a good idea. You can use the knowledge of other bakers and research to help yourself become a skilled baker if you stick with practicing for some time. Put your heart and mind to it and sooner or later, you will see the progress that you’ve been making. You’ll probably make fewer mistakes, and your baking will turn out to be so good.
Baking has definitely been something to cure my boredom, and it could be even better if you’re making something with your friends or family because you can have the funniest moments in the kitchen and make good memories out of it. It is a special hobby where you can learn and improve different skills, and it can also be something you share with everyone else.
