AI (Artificial Intelligence) is seen in everyday life, taking over human jobs like engineering, cleaning, customer services, and, amongst kids, it has taken over tutoring. Kids have started using AI to answer their work instead of doing it themselves. AI is bad because it’s used for plagiarism, leaves people that use it with underdeveloped skills, and it’s biased!
Students, Stop With The Palagarizing
Plagiarism is when a person copies someone’s work such an essay without writing or editing it themselves, simply just copying and pasting. Like, for instance, you don’t know what to write for an essay so you take an essay someone wrote and turn it into yours, or when someone types a prompt into ChatGPT and it churns out an essay, and the person then turns that essay in. What people who use AI for essays or any other work fail to realise is that teachers/professors know when you’re using AI. They can use AI checkers to spot plagiarism. Plagiarizing is bad because not only does it give you the answers without you doing any work, it also takes away from you working hard and actually using your original thoughts. See, once a teacher finds out that you’ve used AI, let alone plagiarized, you will most likely get a failing grade (not most likely it’s most definitely.) It stays on your report for a while. If you write the essay yourself, you’re showing your original thoughts, your ideas, and even if you get a low grade you still wrote it yourself without using AI.
Students Gain Underdeveloped Skills
Using AI in school or anywhere leads to underdeveloped skills. People complain that school is hard but school is what helps us develop skills. In school students learn basic and advanced life skills along with knowledge like math, science, and English. Doing the school work is practice for a student’s mind which helps their brain remember what it has learned. Remembering math, science, and thinking skills are so important because they are all used in everyday life, that’s what makes you smart and what helps you understand the world better. When students use AI to do their math or essays it ruins their originality or gives them no opportunity to learn from mistakes. AI gives them all the answers so the students barely learn anything. Without originality and mistakes being made, students begin to forget the skills they needed to learn. A long term impact of underdeveloped skills is that you get less opportunities and less knowledge. With less knowledge you don’t really get much in life especially when you’re using AI which takes away those basic skills.

Bias In AI
AI is most definitely biased. When you ask an open-ended question it’ll give you an answer, but it’s only one answer, even when there are multiple sides needed. Chapman University made an article about bias in AI. Their article states
Data Collection: Bias often originates here. If the data used to train an AI algorithm is not diverse or representative, the resulting outputs will reflect these biases. For example, training an AI on historical hiring data from a company that favored male applicants may lead to biased hiring recommendations. Data Labeling: The process of labeling training data can introduce bias, as human annotators may have different interpretations of the same data. Subjective labels, such as sentiment analysis categories or facial expressions, can be influenced by cultural or personal biases. Model Training: If the training data is imbalanced or the model architecture is not designed to account for diverse inputs, the model may produce biased outputs. Algorithmic biases can also arise from optimization techniques that favor majority group predictions over minority groups. Deployment: Even if a model appears unbiased during training, biases can still emerge when deployed in real-world applications. If the system is not tested with diverse inputs or monitored for bias after deployment, it can lead to unintended discrimination or exclusion.
AI uses an algorithm meaning that if you want an answer from another source it’s not given to you. It’s bad that AI has this bias because if you’re looking for evidence or multiple opinions on something, AI will only give you what’s in your algorithm and nothing else.
In summary…
AI is bad because it’s used for plagiarism, leaves people that use it with underdeveloped skills, and it’s biased. The media and the rest of the world has made it seem like we need AI, when in reality we need to get in touch with other resources, aka books and teachers/tutors. Overall just don’t use AI, and learn to do things yourself or with teachers.
