Dear Americans, Donald Trump’s recent policies are negatively affecting you no matter your circumstances. Whether you have a lot of privilege or lack it, Trump’s policies have a negative effect on your life financially, mentally, physically, etc. During Trump’s second term as president of the United States he has issued 269 executive orders, already surpassing the amount he signed in his first term as stated by Ballotpedia. Many of these executive orders have had an extremely negative affect on the entirety of the United States.

For example on February 4th of 2025 Trump issued tariffs on multiple different countries. He issued a 10% tariff on Chinese imports, as well as 25% percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico as explained by Federal Register. Trump believed that these tariffs would protect American jobs, and push foreign countries to make trade deals that are better for the US. However these tariffs have created issues for our economy, working as indirect taxes. This means Trump created major pricing issues in the United States, everyday necessities have been at an all time high. Most people in the United States, if not all, have taken issue with the increased prices, even expressing their frustration through protests like the “Hands Off” rallies that took place in multiple places such as Boston, New York, San Francisco, and Chicago on April 5, 2025. More specifically these tariffs create extreme financial struggles for the lower and middle class, which is what America is primarily built on. If lower, and middle class citizens cannot afford to contribute to America, then our economy is at risk of collapsing, very similarly to when the Great Depression took place.

Trump has also signed a succession of executive orders striking the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Act. The repeal of this act means that it’s now legal to discriminate against people within American workforces. And while minorities like Black, Hispanic, and Asian women lost certain rights, white women are negatively affected the most in the work force. The National Institute for Workers Rights explains that when these DEI policies were in place, the majority of applicants that got calls back happened to be white women, even when there were qualified Black applicants available. This means that not only minorities are losing rights in workplaces, but dominant groups are as well. DEI also affects educational environments, specifically making it harder for minorities and white women to get educational opportunities.
Another executive order Trump wrote made gender affirming care illegal for minors. Before this executive order was passed suicidal thoughts in queer teens was already extremly high. After it was enacted, crisis calls from LGBTQAI+ teens surged nearly 70% as explained by The 19th. I’ve estimated the percents of teens who identified as LGBTQAI+ and felt suicidal once ranged from 14-27%, but after this executive order was put into place this percentage of suicidal queer teens is at an all time high reaching nearly 72%. These increased percentages not only put teen lives in danger but also America’s future. Nearly a fourth of Gen Z identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, so if 72% of this population were to die, then the economy could have a major crash. We would suffer from paralyzed supply chains, a severe shortage in people working, as well as a short term GDP plummet. These are the same economic effects we experienced due to COVID-19 pandemic fatalities, according to the National Library Of Medicine.
While I don’t like highlighting potential tragedies regarding policies like this, I do believe it is important for all of us to understand how Donald Trump’s 2nd Administration is slowly draining us all. Many people living in America overlook injustice due to the fact that they are not its target audience. However I hope that my article shined a light on how everyone in America is being negatively impacted by Donald Trump and his inconsiderate policies.
