The Top Five Trending Fashion Pieces you Need in your Closet!

Fashion is a form of art. Fashion is a way to express yourself. There have been many different trends and styles over the years. In the past few years, there have been new fashion trends forming such as baggy clothing, chunky shoes, and vintage shirts or sweaters. If you were to wear these fashion pieces in the 2010’s, so many people would probably judge you. This was because a lot of people were not used to seeing this style. But now in the year 2024 almost everyone is wearing these clothes. In this listicle, we will be going over the top five popular clothing pieces most young adults and teens are wearing in the fashion industry of streetwear.

1. Baggy Jeans

I was in the 10th grade when I first got my pair of baggy jeans. It was October 2023 and I was excited. I saw a lot of people at school wearing these pants and I thought they were good-looking. I also saw people wearing baggy jeans all over social media and wanted to try a pair. So, I went to Zara and bought baggy jeans for about 50 dollars. I got a black pair of jeans in my favorite color and black matches with everything. On my way home, I was thinking about the different ways to style the pants. When I got home, I decided to wear the pants with my new red Gap hoodie, Jordan 4’s, and a Carhartt beanie. I put these pieces together because of the feeling I had when I wore it. I felt more confident in these jeans than any other jeans I’ve worn before.

Baggy jeans have taken over the fashion scene and everyone is wearing them. They are easy to style and easy to find. They are also versatile. These jeans come in different colors like black, acid wash, blue, etc. They also have different designs like holes, stripes on the sides, and camo designs. 2. Jorts 

Have you ever wanted to wear jeans in hot weather but it makes the heat worse? Well you’re in luck! You can wear jorts. With the popularity of baggy jeans also came jorts. Jorts are shorts that are jeans. During the beginning of the summer of 2024 I was wearing baggy jeans, which I love, but it was 94 degrees,  and I decided that I needed to wear shorts. 3. Timbs

On social media I would see a lot of fashion creators wearing Timbs, which is short for Timberlands. This made me want to own a pair as well. As soon as I got my paycheck, I went online and bought them for 150 dollars on Culture Kings. I was so joyful. As soon as they came, I wore them with my black sweater and baggy blue jeans. I liked the way they looked and appreciated the extra inch of height. 

Timbs have been used for many different purposes over the years, from construction workers wearing them for durability, to people wearing them in the snow, or simply as a fashion statement. They originally were used as blue-collar work shoes because of their waterproof protection and their bulkiness. But over the past couple of years, people have started to wear Timbs as everyday fashion use. This is because of many factors. One of them being because of the celebrities associated with them, especially the East Coast hip hop artists. Another reason is because of the practicality and style. Every time you go on social media to see outfits on Instagram or TikTok, you will most likely see someone wearing Timbs. Timbs come in different colors and are incredibly adaptable. This gives a cool aesthetic look. Plus, in the winter season, they will keep you warm. The extra inch of height that Timbs give you might allow you to “height mog” all of your friends, meaning you can brag about being taller than the people you’re around. You can get Timbs in any shoe store and they will cost you about 200 dollars, so make sure to save your money for them! The price is worth it because they are very durable and can be used in various weather conditions. 

4. Dad shoes

I’ve been into shoes for a long time. Until recently, I would have never considered buying New Balances, Asics, or Birkenstocks because they were considered ‘dad shoes.’ They were the generic shoes that your dad might wear. This all changed in the summer of 2022 and 2023. I started to see way more people wear New Balances. When I saw some of my favorite fashion creators wear them, I knew it was time for me to get them and join in on the hype. Out of the three types of dad shoes, I chose the Birkenstocks, because I wanted a pair of comfortable sandals in the taupe color from their website. I already had many outfits in mind before getting the Birks, short for Birkenstocks. Once they arrived, the very next day I wore them to school with my camo jacket and black baggy jeans. I liked how comfortable they were and was very happy. Now I am planning to get both the Asics and a pair of New Balances for my birthday. 

New Balances, Birkenstocks, Asics, are taking over the fashion scene for teens and young adults following footwear trends. These shoes are known as dad shoes because they used to be made  fun of for having an old-person aesthetic. But it soon became a trend because of the unique look these shoes have. Their silhouettes are a little different than normal shoes, The Boston Birkenstocks unique look, the designs of the Asics and New Balance are what make the shoes special along with comfort and everyday use. On social media, teens are watching ‘top five shoes’ videos where dad shoes are mentioned. In school, people wear New Balances 2002 R, 9060, and 530. The Boston Birkenstocks are also the most popular birkenstocks, and the most popular Asics styles are the Gel-1130 and Kayano 14.  This popularity and social impact  has an effect on resale prices. For example, the Gel-1130 in black was originally for 90 dollars, but is now being sold for about 160-200 dollars. 

5. Cropped Tees and Cropped Boxy Hoodies

Before I discovered cropped tees and cropped boxy hoodies, I would get my hoodies at retail stores. The problem with these sweaters was that they would be too long in larger sizes. Additionally, the quality was bad. Their faded, material frayed, and the strings are breaking. However, with cropped boxy hoodies I can get a big size without it being too long since it’s cropped to my waist. Also, they are boxy, which gives me a lot of room to move, and keeps me warm. I bought two of these hoodies, one from Octroi and the other from 07even. These are both brands that are reliable with fast delivery options. When they arrived, I wore them to school the next day. For the pink hoodie, I styled it by pairing it with colors that compliment pink. For the other hoodie which was black, I wore it with baggy gray sweats and Birkenstocks. These fit me perfectly.

Lots of teens have started to use cropped tees and hoodies, andby cropped, I don’t mean above your belly button.They sit right on your waist, which makes them a perfect fit, not too long making it look like it’s about to touch the floor. Also with the cropped tees and hoodies, they are usually boxy. The boxy fit allows for more room and comfort. It might take a little time to get used to the fit, but once you do, you will be the most stylish out of all your friends because the clothes are proportionate, and proportions make any outfit pop. You can buy cropped tees from places like Asos, the TikTok shop, and Urban Outfitters. My favorite cropped boxy hoodies are the hoodies from Octori; an Instagram brand, and Yeezy Gap hoodies. These hoodies are a little pricey, around 100 dollars, but their quality is great and they’ll last a long time. I’ve personally bought from these stores, and I can say these are some of the best sweaters I’ve had in a long time. The fabric doesn’t stick to my skin, they’re comfortable, and they keep me warm.
